CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS OF ITALIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

At Laboling we are pleased to offer teachers of Italian as a foreign language the possibility of updating their linguistic and didactic skills on a course in continuing education at our centre in Milazzo.

The course is divided into two modules and will take place on the following dates:

Module 1: from 14 July to 18 July 2025 / from 28 July to 01 August 2025
Module 2: from 21 July to 25 July 2025 / from 04 August to 08 August 2025

You can enrol for a single module or both modules.




Module 1 Programme:

• Didactic unit: history and concepts of right-brain/left-brain modalities and directionality. The various phases of a Didactic Unit.
• Approaches and methodology: the importance of the communicative method.
• Teaching a multilingual class versus a monolingual class and the use of Language 1 in a foreign language classroom: when and how to use Language 1, efficient methods for reducing the use of Language 1 and promoting the use of the target language; an example of a first lesson with beginners without using Language 1.
• Linguistic models for teaching: contemporary Italian and its characteristics. The evolution of language.

Module 2 Programme:

• How to improve students’ speaking abilities: functional strategies and useful activities to facilitate conversation in a language class.
• Words and images: the use of videos to teach Italian. Documentaries, advertisements and short films are some suggestions for use in class.
• Using songs to teach languages: how to choose and use a song in class; analysis of a song used for teaching purposes.
• Workshop: How to use authentic material for teaching purposes.

During the course there will be lesson observations and follow-up interactive discussion with teachers from our school on teaching practices, the didactic material used in lessons and any developments in educational publishing.

Each module includes 10 lessons in subject didactics in teaching Italian as a foreign language and 12 lesson observations in class.

Price
It costs EURO 500 to attend one module (1 week, 22 lessons) and EURO 850 to attend two modules (2 weeks, 44 lessons).
